Common Sense Altered People – Chapter 19

One Week

It’s a long chapter for the first time in a while.

Sunday.

As evening approached, I came home after finishing volleyball club practice. Exhausted, I opened the front door and headed to my room. After changing clothes, I went down to the living room. Mom was cooking dinner. I took an ice cream out from the freezer and sat down on the sofa. And then Mom-
“Did you wash your hands properly? Dinner will be soon, so make sure to wash them well.”
-said thus. And so, I-
“I washed them, I washed them.”
-I lied and turned on the TV. It was playing the evening news program. A beautiful announcer was having a difficult conversation with a commentator. While I was meaninglessly changing the channels, dinner was ready. Just as dad also came home.

After finishing eating dinner, I took a bath and then went to sleep. School starts again tomorrow. I got into the futon while thinking that I had to get up early again.

Pedestrian Crossing

My senpai, Maki-san, and I were walking to the office. We had an important business meeting this afternoon. This is a very important one that will influence the future policy of the company. I was nervous, but if I keep calm I’m sure it’ll be fine. As we approached the crosswalk, the traffic light turned red and we stopped.

As we were waiting for the traffic light, Maki-san-
“Do you want some gum? We should be careful of bad breath.”
-said this as she handed me a piece of gum. Certainly, it might be good to relieve tension. Saying thanks, I took the piece of gum. The taste of mint spread in my mouth. At the same time, the signal turned green.

Common Sense Altered People – Chapter 17

Clothing Store

A large clothing store in the suburbs. I was there to buy an interview suit for my job hunting. Since it was a holiday, the store was lively. In the job-hunting-related corner, there were a large number of suits and advertising posters lined up. This is an important step that will determine my future. I started choosing suits right away.

After searching for a while, a certain mannequin caught my eye. It was dressed in a fine men’s suit. However, something was wrong. The area around the chest was lumpy and swollen, just like a pair of boobs. Or rather, upon looking closely, they were real boobs. It wasn’t a mannequin, but an actual human woman wearing the suit. The woman was posing, completely still without moving an inch. Since the suit was being worn by a woman, it’s only natural that the chest area would swell. I immediately withdrew my doubts. However, why is a woman wearing it even though it’s a suit for men? Well, that’s probably a mistake on the store’s part.

Field Trip

Today we’d be having a field trip. The destination this time was Kyoto. After seeing temples and shrines, we can freely explore Kyoto city. To be honest, this free action is the most fun part of the field trip. Excited, I checked my luggage.

While it was still early in the morning, I was sent off to school by my mother. Several buses had already stopped at the school. I boarded the designated bus as directed by the teacher and bus guide-san. Yuki-chan sat next to me. Yuki-chan will be in the same group as me for this field trip. While we were chatting about where to go in Kyoto, the bus departed.

The bus got on the highway. We are on our way to Kyoto. The mood inside the bus was lively. Before long, the bus stopped at a service area for a restroom break. Some people got off the bus. Yuki and I also went to the bathroom.

Common Sense Altered People – Chapter 15

Movies

Taking advantage of my day off, I went to the cinema. Today is the release date of the movie I wanted to see. I was curious when I heard that my favourite actress, Makina Hirose, was going to be playing the lead role. As for the contents of the movie, it appears to be a common romantic comedy.

I bought a ticket and popcorn and gave my ticket to the staff. After being given the screen number, I walked through dimly lit corridors plastered with advertisements and posters. The screen number was No. 4. A commercial was playing when I went inside. It was a cheap one from a local company. There were quite a few guests inside. When I sat down in the designated seat, put down my drink and popcorn, and began fiddling with my smartphone, the theatre went dark. It’s about to begin. The trailer of the movie and the cautionary announcements in the theatre played, before the main movie finally started.

I was stupefied. Without any context, Hirose was suddenly shown naked. The camera continued to focus on Hirose, who was standing there expressionless. The video played for several minutes. I was puzzled. I had heard that it was a common story, but I didn’t think it was this devoid of plot. I don’t mind seeing Hirose naked, but it’s not fun to watch this video all the time. When I was thinking about leaving, the video changed.
